The Sheep Fair was to have been held on 22nd August but because of the Foot and Mouth outbreak it was cancelled. It was a shame because the sun actually shone all day and also because the Sheep Fair Committee had as usual worked hard to make it a good event. The Committee decided they couldn't let the day pass without something to mark it and so a sale was held on the Green in the evening. It was well supported by local people and some of the Travellers kindly turned up to give a bit of authenticity to the event. Model sheep pens had been skilfully made by Arran Small (son of Bill) and each contained some toy sheep. Tom Killen was the auctioneer, bidding was strong and over ý500 was made for local charities from the event.
The Green was uncharacteristically empty but still two traders were there waiting by the New Inn, Mr Giovanni Abruzzi in an icecream van and another man who said he had travelled 300 miles.
